Sierra Marine Engine Parts (18-6035) Yamaha Anode With Stainless Steel Screws are vital for steering your boat safely and correctly. These anodes, when properly aligned, counteract torque pressure created by the propeller for steering and help smooth out "prop-walk," the tendency of a propeller to rotate about a vertical axis. It also allows for a more stable ride while reducing undesired torque. They are frequently positioned at an offset angle for this reason, with right-turning outboard motors aligned with right-turning outboard motors and left-turning outboard motors aligned with left-turning outboard motors. The offset needed for precise steering is indicated by a series of hash marks near the trim tab on most Yamaha outboards.
