The water pump housing is the outer shell that encases the water pump and houses other parts. It serves as a connection point between the engine and the upper radiator hose. Made from different materials like plastic or aluminum, depending on the engine use. But a water pump kit is not needed for housing, depending on the vehicle application. The component is independent of the water pump. It is easier to change the pump without changing the housing and remove and replace all the gaskets and O rings with the water pump.
